Cold Mode

-The ECM limits engine power during cold mode operation and the ECM modifies injection timing during cold mode operation. Cold mode operation provides the following benefits:

*   Increased cold weather starting capability
*   Reduced warm-up time
*   Reduced white smoke

-The Electronic Control Module (ECM) limits engine power during cold mode operation. The ECM may modify the injection timing and the ECM may cut out certain engine cylinders. This will increase startability and this will reduce warm up time. Cold mode is activated whenever the engine coolant temperature falls below a predetermined value. Cold mode remains active until the engine has warmed or a time limit is exceeded.

Cold Mode Operation

-The ECM will set the cold start strategy when the coolant temperature is below 18 °C (64 °F).
-When the cold start strategy is activated, low idle rpm will be increased to 1000 rpm and engine power will be limited.
-Cold mode operation will be deactivated when any of the following conditions have been met:

*   Coolant temperature reaches 18 °C (64 °F).
*   The engine has been running for 14 minutes.

-Cold mode operation varies the fuel injection amount for white smoke cleanup. Cold mode operation also varies the timing for white smoke cleanup. The engine operating temperature is reached before the walk-around inspection is completed. The engine will idle at the programmed low idle rpm in order to be put in gear.

-After the cold mode is completed, the engine should be operated at low rpm until normal operating temperature is reached. The engine will reach normal operating temperature faster when the engine is operated at low rpm and low-power demand.

No Engine Speed

-It’s normal to see the “No Engine Speed” on Status Flags while power switched ON or Engine Cranking. It will not go away until the Engine Starts, even when you are seeing Engine Speed in Status Tool on Caterpillar Diagnostic Software.

Part 4: Chrysler wiTech MicroPod 2 Common Error & Solutions

Error 1: Device with serial number XXX is not registered

The solution:
1. Right click wiTech Diagnostic Application-> Properties-> Open file location

2. Enter C:/Program Files (x86)/DCC Tools/wiTECH/client
Right click “app-config” text file and select “Edit”

3. Find out “VerificationHash”, and in the value item, change the first number to anyone digit you like
i.e change 5 to 6
Then save the text file (Very important!!!)

4. Run Witech Micropod II software.
If it still displays message” an internal registration error has occurred “, just close these windows to ignore it.

5. Tick off “Working Offline” at the left corner of screen, then you don’t need to log in. Click on “Finish”

Problem Fixed
Go on using wiTech MicroPod 2 to diagnose or program Chrysler

Error 2: When register MicroPod 2 V17.04.27, it prompts “Access refuse”.

The solution:
The prompt is indicating that the software is not installed properly. It’s better to uninstall and reinstall.

Error 3: It cannot detect the Witech MicroPod 2 diagnostic tool on the computer. Maybe there is something wrong with the driver.

The solution:
When connecting MicroPodII to computer, it will install driver automatically.
If cannot, please right click “Ethernet Gadget” to install manually.

Error 4: When connect the wiTECH2 Micropod 2 interface to diagnose Chrysler, the MicroPod2 indicator light flashed and software prompted error message “microprocessor 1 is unresponsive”.

Possible cause:
1). Software is not compatible with hardware/firmware.

-If you connect to laptop first (power by USB cable) and run software immediately, software and firmware will automatically synchronous upgrade and that will lead to the firmware failure. Must connect the device to vehicle!

-If the red indicator flashes, the firmware is damaged. You have to send it back to repair.

When a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM) are replaced at the
same time, perform the following steps:
1. Using the DRB III scan tool, follow the on screen instructions to program the new PCM.
2. Using the DRB III, follow the on screen instructions to program the new Sentry Key Remote Entry Module.
3. Replace all ignition keys and program them to the new Sentry Key Remote Entry Module.

PROGRAMMING THE PCM
The Sentry Key Remote Entry System Secret Key is an ID code that is unique to each Sentry Key Remote Entry
Module. This code is programmed and stored in the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module, the PCM, and the ignition
key transponder chip(s). When replacing the PCM, the DRB III will program the secret key into the new PCM.
Note: If three attempts are made to enter secure access mode using an incorrect PIN, secured access mode
will be locked out for one hour. To exit this lockout mode, turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position
for one hour, then enter the correct PIN. (Ensure all accessories are turned off. Also monitor the battery
state and connect a battery charger if necessary).

PROGRAMMING THE SENTRY KEY REMOTE ENTRY MODULE
Note: Be sure to enter the correct country code. If the incorrect country code is programmed into the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module, it cannot be changed and the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module must be replaced.
1. Program ignition keys to the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module.
Note: If the PCM and the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module are replaced at the same time, all vehicle ignition
keys will need to be replaced and programmed to the new Sentry Key Remote Entry Module.
PROGRAMMING IGNITION KEYS TO THE SENTRY KEY REMOTE ENTRY MODULE
Note: A maximum of eight keys can be learned to each Sentry Key Remote Entry Module. Once a key is
learned to an Sentry Key Remote Entry Module it (the key) cannot be transferred to another vehicle.
1. Obtain ignition keys to be programmed from the customer (8 keys maximum).
2. Using the DRB III, erase all ignition keys.
3. Program all of the ignition keys.
If ignition key programming is unsuccessful, the DRB III will display a failure message.

OPERATION
The Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM) has the following functions: receiving and evaluating the Radio
Frequency (RF) keyless entry remote signal, actuation of door locks in conjunction with the Central Locking Pump/
Security System Module, and enabling the vehicle theft security alarm with confirmation via the turn signals. When
the RKE transmitter is operated, an RF signal is transmitted. If the SKREEM recognizes the RF signal as valid, it
actuates the Central Locking Pump/Security System Module through the Body Control Module. The vehicle is then
locked or unlocked through the power locks system. Connected to the SKREEM is a Sentry Key Antenna Ring
which surrounds the ignition lock cylinder. When the ignition is switched on, the Sentry Key Antenna Ring is supplied
with power. A data block is transmitted inductively via the Sentry Key Antenna Ring to the SKREEM and then
on to the Powertrain Control Module. If the antenna ring data block content is invalid or if vehicle battery power is
too low to build up enough power for the antenna ring, the Powertrain Control Module will not receive the proper
signal. This is displayed with the message “Start Error” in the Instrument Cluster.
The SKREEM contains an RF transceiver and a microprocessor. The SKREEM transmits RF signals to and receives
RF signals from the ignition key transponder through a tuned Sentry Key Antenna Ring that is wired to the
SKREEM. If the Sentry Key Antenna Ring is not mounted properly around the ignition lock cylinder housing, communication
problems between the SKREEM and the ignition key may arise. These communication problems will
result in ignition key transponder-related faults. The SKREEM also communicates over the Controller Area Network
(CAN) data bus with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), the Instrument Cluster, the Body Control Module (BCM),
and/or the DRB III scan tool.
The SKREEM retains in memory the ID numbers of any ignition key transponder that is programmed into it. For
added system security each SKREEM is programmed with a unique secret key code. This code is stored in memory,
sent over the CAN data bus to the PCM, and is encoded to the transponder of every ignition key that is programmed
into the SKREEM.
In the event that a SKREEM replacement is required, the secret key code can be transferred to the new SKREEM
from the PCM using the DRB III scan tool and the ignition key system replacement programming procedure.
Proper completion of the ignition key system initialization will allow the existing ignition keys to be programmed into
the new SKREEM so that new keys will not be required. In the event that the original secret key code cannot be
recovered, SKREEM replacement will also require new ignition keys. The DRB III scan tool will alert the technician
during the key reprogramming procedure if new ignition keys are required.
The sentry key system performs a self-test each time the ignition switch is turned to the ON/RUN position and will
store fault information in the form of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in SKREEM memory if a system malfunction
is detected. The SKREEM can be diagnosed and any stored DTCs can be retrieved using a DRB III scan tool.
Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.

STANDARD PROCEDURE – TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING
The Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter(s) can be programmed by the customer without special tools.
PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE
Transmitter programming by the customer is done by performing the following steps:
1. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
2. Press either the lock or unlock button momentarily twice.
3. Turn the key in the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within 30 seconds.

SENTRY KEY VERIFICATION TEST
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect all jumper wires and reconnect all previously disconnected components and connectors.
Note: If the SKREEM or the PCM was replaced, refer to the service information for proper programming
procedures.
With the DRB III, erase all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from ALL modules. Operate all functions of the system
that caused the original complaint.
Perform 5 ignition key cycles leaving the key on for at least 90 seconds per cycle.
Turn the ignition off and wait 5 seconds. Turn the ignition on and using the DRB III, read DTCs from ALL modules.

Procedures:

1.From the Nissan Diagnostic Tools CONSULT-III plus “All DTC” screen, select the “BCM”.

2.Select “MULTI REMOTE ENTRY”.

3.Select “Work Support”.

4.When the next screen appears, (section shown below) select “REMO CONT ID REGIST” function to program the remotes.

ID Code Entry Procedure

STEP 1

Close all doors (Observe the operation of the interior light with each door to ensure the door switches are OK).

STEP 2

Operate lock using the driver side door lock and unlock switch (on P/Window swassy.)

STEP 3

1.Remove and insert the key into the ignition key 6 times within 10 seconds (turning the key barrel switch from OFF to ON counts as 1 time).

2.Hazard warning lamp blinks and all door unlocks.

NOTE:On the sixth key insertion, keep the key in the cylinder with the key barrel switch ON.Does the hazard lamp blink and all doors unlock?YES >> GO TO STEP 4.NO >> GO TO STEP 1.

STEP 4

Within 3 seconds after the hazard lamp blinks and all door unlocks, turn ignition switch to the ACC position and operate lock using the driver side door lock and unlock switch.

STEP 5

1.Press the lock or unlock button of the keyfobto be added.

2.All doors unlock simultaneously.

3.Hazard warning lamp blinks and all door unlocks.

4.Key ID is registered.

Is key ID registered?

YES-1 >> When adding a keyfob: GO TO STEP 6.

YES-2 >> When ending registration: GO TO STEP 8.

NO >> GO TO STEP 1.

STEP 6

Operate lock using the driver side door lock and unlock switch.

STEP 7

1.Press the lock or unlock button of the keyfobto be added.

2.All doors unlock simultaneously.

3.Hazard warning lamp blinks and all door unlocks.

4.Key ID is registered.

Is key ID registered?

YES-1 >> When adding a keyfob: GO TO STEP 6.

YES-2 >> When ending registration: GO TO STEP 8.

NO >> GO TO STEP 6.

STEP 8

Open the all doors >> REGISTRATION END.
