Cold Mode

-The ECM limits engine power during cold mode operation and the ECM modifies injection timing during cold mode operation. Cold mode operation provides the following benefits:

*   Increased cold weather starting capability
*   Reduced warm-up time
*   Reduced white smoke

-The Electronic Control Module (ECM) limits engine power during cold mode operation. The ECM may modify the injection timing and the ECM may cut out certain engine cylinders. This will increase startability and this will reduce warm up time. Cold mode is activated whenever the engine coolant temperature falls below a predetermined value. Cold mode remains active until the engine has warmed or a time limit is exceeded.

Cold Mode Operation

-The ECM will set the cold start strategy when the coolant temperature is below 18 °C (64 °F).
-When the cold start strategy is activated, low idle rpm will be increased to 1000 rpm and engine power will be limited.
-Cold mode operation will be deactivated when any of the following conditions have been met:

*   Coolant temperature reaches 18 °C (64 °F).
*   The engine has been running for 14 minutes.

-Cold mode operation varies the fuel injection amount for white smoke cleanup. Cold mode operation also varies the timing for white smoke cleanup. The engine operating temperature is reached before the walk-around inspection is completed. The engine will idle at the programmed low idle rpm in order to be put in gear.

-After the cold mode is completed, the engine should be operated at low rpm until normal operating temperature is reached. The engine will reach normal operating temperature faster when the engine is operated at low rpm and low-power demand.

No Engine Speed

-It’s normal to see the “No Engine Speed” on Status Flags while power switched ON or Engine Cranking. It will not go away until the Engine Starts, even when you are seeing Engine Speed in Status Tool on Caterpillar Diagnostic Software.

After a successful service tool installation, when trying to run the service tool for the first time, one of the following errors may occasionally appear: “The entry point could not be located in api-ms-win-crt-runtime” or “The program can’t start because mfc140u.dll is missing from your computer.” If either of these messages is displayed, follow the procedure below.

This procedure requires administrator rights.

1. Open the Start Menu
2. Click the Control Panel
3. Click the “Programs and Features” icon. If there is only a “Programs” icon, click the “Uninstall a Program” link next to the icon.

A2:CAT Comm II was a serial port model, but since computers are no longer made with serial ports, they changed the design to a USB and called it a CAT Comm III. So you are correct. This unit works with all CAT engines — Marine, on-highway, and off-highway. On Marine units, I’m not sure where they put the plug, but it should be somewhere near the ECM (Typically). It should be either a 6 pin or 9 pin connector.

Q3: Does this work with CAT 3500 natural gas engines and 3600 natural gas engines? Thanks.
A3: If those programs use CAT Electronic Technician (CAT ET) for the software, it will work.

Q4: Can the cat communicate3 also be used to read detroit and cummins engines if I have the correct software?
A4:Yes, it reads both J1708 and J1939 so it can read both of those. Keep in mind that this adapter only comes with the J1939 adapter end, so I would recommend purchasing the J1708 adapter end from me as well if you plan on connecting to some older stuff.

Q5:will this unit allow me all access to the ecm to alter all areas eg set speed limiter to a lower speed and is there a yearly lic fee.
A5: This device is what you should use if you will be hooking up to both off-highway & on-highway CAT engines. If you are strictly wanting to work on on-highway CAT engines, I would rather see you purchase a Nexiq USB Link .The Nexiq USB Link is universal (Works with CAT, Cummins, Detroit, Allison, etc…), it is cheaper, plus it has bluetooth so you can go wireless.

Instructions:
1. Install CAT ET-2019C v1.0, download here: ET 2019C v1.0.exe
2. Run “HWID6”, click “Save to Clipboard”, download here: HWID6.exe, then send to my email here: Contact Us
3. I’ll help to create your HWID to “catet.lic” file, it’s needed to activate your CAT ET-2019C
4. Copy “FlashServer.dll”, “fnp_ld.dll”, and “catet.lic” files into C:\Program Files (or Program Files x86)\Common Files\Offboard Information Products\2019C\Flash\ download here: dll_for_FlashServer
5. Copy “Comet_libFNP.dll”, “fnp_ld.dll”, “fp.dll”, and “catet.lic” files into C:\Program Files (or Program Files x86)\Common Files\Offboard Information Products\2019C\Comet\ download here: dll_for_Comet
6. Add “set_level.reg” file into Registry, select level you want as below list; and please Contact Us
